Latino Border Patrol agents hit back at accusations they are arresting and deporting their own kind in a CNN segment on rising interest in Border Patrol recruitment under President Donald Trump.
CNN senior national correspondent David Culver was granted rare access to the Border Patrol Academy in New Mexico for a Friday segment that ran on The Situation Room. According to CBP, applications are up 70% from a year ago and more than half of the agents serving on the southern border are Hispanic.
Juan Peralta, a 20-year-old Border Patrol recruit, told Culver hes received backlash for his decision to join CBP, especially as they have taken part in ongoing ICE deportation operations. Theyre kind of like, wow, youre starting pretty young or how do you feel about arresting your own kind, Peralta said about reactions to him joining.
How do you answer that when you hear that? Culver asked. They didnt come in the right way so they arent my kind, Peralta, whose father was an immigrant, said.

Then they get arrested in court.

(225 posts)The Latino equivalent to Uncle Toms. Ultimately they will learn that there is no protection for them from the racism which they help to enforce. Many Maga people vote against their own interests but these ICE pendejos choose to make careers out of it.

(165,266 posts)(as other POC will note) "honorary white".... until "the rules change". "Hispanic" is a language group and the sometimes synonymous "Latino" is a geographic designation. That is probably the biggest thing going on in TX. They may have been there generations and think they are "assimilated" but the supremacist will never consider them "assimilated". Ironically some of the loudest ones like that even join supremacists and spout supremacist ideology (like Enrico Tarrio and Nick Fuentes), but don't understand the concept of the white supremacist's core concept and belief of "racial purity" (and that even applies to many southern Europeans like Greeks and Italians/Sicilians, and even Spaniards and Portuguese, who have always been discriminated against by the ethnic northern European-descended "purists" ).
The advent of DNA testing for genealogical purposes helped to blow a lot of this apart though, as supremacy spouters suddenly discovered their REAL genetic make-up and they weren't what they envisioned themselves as being.

(37,306 posts)the notoriously "Anglo-German" Nick Fuentes, right?
No way he'd ever be accepted as actually "white"--the mere suggestion would have people tossing him across the border, with special hopes of impaling him on the top of the border 'wall'.
And yet ...

Believe me, hispanic immigrants pull that ladder up behind them really, really fast.

(20,573 posts)Stationed at the border appears to present a conundrum and being an OXYMORON at the same time. "Arresting one's own kind"? The person should have thought that out much better.
