FEMA rejects western Maryland flood aid request

Source: The Hill

10/23/25 7:18 PM ET

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) said the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) denied his state’s appeal for federal disaster relief for flooding in May. Moore, in a Thursday release, called the move “deeply frustrating” and said it “leaves Marylanders on their own.”

“FEMA has a responsibility to weigh the merits of each emergency request objectively,” Moore added. “Instead, President Trump and his Administration have politicized disaster relief, and our communities are the ones who will pay the price.”

The floods occurred over two days, impacting Garrett and Allegany counties in western Maryland. They resulted in $33.7 million in damages, with homes, schools, libraries and other community buildings impacted, according to a letter Moore sent to Trump in August.

The president did not issue a major disaster declaration, which would have made FEMA assistance available, following the floods. In July, the administration denied disaster assistance to Maryland. Moore appealed the decision in August, noting that the damages were nearly triple Maryland’s federal threshold for assistance. “Maryland has met long-standing criteria for FEMA support in the wake of historic floods across Mountain Maryland. And this appeal isn’t simply justified, it’s necessary,” Moore said at the time.

more often votes "red" than not.

So You-Know-Who's FEMA has harmed his own supporters in the state.

Gov. Moore is very intelligently putting the blame where it belongs.

But see, EVERYTHING 45 does is based on RACE and he fixates on that with his decisions, regardless of all the other "collateral damage".

What race is Apalachia? They are frequently poor mountain folks. I didn't know they were a particular race.

I went to Western Maryland college, which has since changed its name. But there was a majority white population with other races when I lived there.

'Nuff said.

As an example - what race is the current mayor of San Francisco, where the National Guard invasion was suddenly "called off"?

I will give you ONE guess.

The vindictiveness. He wants those people who live in those areas impacted by the floods to blame their governor for "not doing enough".

Portland has a white mayor and the NG has been kept (by the courts so far) out of the city. And he "cancelled" the NG in San Francisco (thanks to that mayor who is also a Levi Straus heir).

Yet Los Angeles (black mayor) and Chicago (black mayor) and Washington, D.C. (black mayor), and Memphis, TN (black mayor), have been given the jack-booted thug treatment. New Orleans (black mayor) is next on the list for November.

We here in Philly (black mayor) are bracing for the evil eye to look this way, the BIRTHPLACE of this country. I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas (black mayor) ends up on a list, yet wouldn't expect any in Houston (white mayor) or Phoenix (white mayor) to have the pleasure.

All of the major cities have had drops in crime rates so it's the bullshit "excuse" to claim "crime", where it's nothing more than "massa" exerting his power.

like he is tearing apart this nation.

But as soon as people accept the fact that he is acting as the supreme "white supremacist", the sooner the strategies can shift to factor that in and anticipate the next moves. Otherwise people keep giving him the benefit of the doubt.

There are racists coming out of the woodwork, too.

He is the primary divider but he's also empowering others to divide. He's certainly not alone in the effort. Dividers are everywhere. Even here on occasion.

I hope that you have a great day, BRDS. Thanks for everything. ❤️

Trump has declared himself King. And the MAGA fools haven't a clue.

I spent 3 hours yesterday sitting with my dying neighbor so her husband could go to a dental consult.
Gigantic screen tv turned on to Faux News all day long and she is parked in front of it.

She is very weak but she managed to still try to trigger me about Democrats being evil. I did not respond although I did feel like walking right out of the house. Faux News has to be stopped. It was just straight up Democrat bashing and hatred for 3 solid hours.

Seriously? And Trump is throwing around tens of billions of dollars to refurbish his "gift" plane, bail out Argentina's economy, and build a palace style ballroom. Shoot, a few of his golf trips would have paid for the disaster relief. What a monster.
