Trump's Coca-Cola Demand Hit With a Reality Check

President Donald Trump may have launched a one-man nostalgia party over the nation’s favorite beverage but the sad truth is there might actually just not be enough of the good Coke to go around.

Amid the president’s demands that Coca-Cola return to using cane sugar in its iconic drink, the soda manufacturer’s Chief Financial Officer John Murphy told Bloomberg Tuesday that increased production of the original recipe has been stymied by the key ingredient’s only limited availability in the U.S. “It’s going to be a measured roll-out,” Murphy said. “There is only a certain amount of cane sugar available in the United States.”

Coca Cola largely stopped using cane or beet sugar to flavor its drink in the early 1980s amid a spike in prices due to import quotas and global market volatility, opting instead for corn syrup, readily available in the U.S., as a cheaper alternative.

Cane sugar continues to be used in Mexico, accounting for the growing success of “Mexican Coke” in the U.S., and in kosher versions of the drink rolled out during Passover, when the Jewish community avoids consuming foods containing corn or wheat, among other ingredients.

Someone should tell him it was done. That will shut him up (After the initial crowing about how he succeeded at something, of course.)

He's been drinking Diet Coke for many years, so he shouldn't give a damn what they put in regular Coke. He just likes stirring shit up.

Coca leaves gave it the flavor and the cocaine gave it it's refreshing kick.

14. Coca leaves, cane sugar, coffee beans are all things we have to import because they don't grow here

It has to do with climate, growing season, soils, annual rainfalls, and cost of labor. If Chump were anything resembling a good businessman, or even a not-terrible businessman, he would have KNOWN THIS ALREADY!

But he doesn't know any of this, and here we are, debating these stupid tariffs because we have to IMPORT STUFF! Well yeah, of course we have to import these things because we can't grow them HERE!

(I would add cacao beans to this list, which is another C. I'm sure there are others.)

He is a conman and mobster.
What he does is throw out crumbs to distract people from what he is really up to. It works. Look, we’re talking about one of his nonsense crumbs while he is amassing power and fortune, all taken from us.

that there would be enough sugar to go around. Maybe he should stop the manufacturing of candy corn so he can get sugary coke.

9. High fructose corn syrup is considerably cheaper, & if you read labels, you find it in everything

I remember reading up on HFCS some years back — turns out that while sugar may be bad for you, HFCS is really bad, as it kind of slams your brain and sets you up for more cravings. Since it was constructed in a science lab I’m pretty sure the scientists and lab rats already knew that when it went to market.

So I started reading labels on my next grocery trip and was surprised to find it in just about everything.

But definitely cheaper than cane sugar.
