Arab World Tells Hamas to End Gaza Rule, Lay Down Weapons

Source: Newsweek

The Arab world has condemned Hamas, telling the group to end its rule in Gaza and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority.

Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt joined 14 other countries in signing a declaration at a U.N. conference that condemned the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel and gave "unwavering support" to a two-state solution.

"In the context of ending the war in Gaza, Hamas must end its rule in Gaza and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority," the declaration said. "In line with the objective of a sovereign and independent Palestinian State."

The US is helping itself and the collateral damage is acceptable. Y'all wanna make America great then forget them and forget her too. We have the oil, we have neighbor countries that also do. Like trying to intervene in a fight between your mother and your aunt. They will be pissed at you long after they forget why they were fighting.

for many reasons. Hamas might accept that over non-Islamic countries. UN would have oversight. That would stop the killing and the Egyptian army can disarm Hamas as part of the reconstruction process. Aid could come in through Egypt or the sea.

The time when Gaza was a wholly owned portion of Egypt because Egypt had annexed it after occupying it during the war.

The Israelis living in Judea and Samaria aren't going anywhere.

As a side point, why do so many accept the idea of a Jew Free Palestine? Why would any UN country support creating an ethnically "pure" nation that completely lacks any semblance of pluralism? There isn't even a democratically elected government.

Jews, Muslims, Druze, Christians etc live together in relative harmony. Some of the more disparate groups have very little in common but they all respect each other's space and traditions. There is no reason why the "West bank" could not operate in a similar fashion, except for the fact that Muslim Arabs don't accept multiculturalism in any way. The one Arab country that tried has degenerated into chaos (Lebanon) and that country had already expelled it's Jewish citizens, leaving Sunnis, Shia, Christian Arabs and Druze. They still couldn't make it work.

There are some loudmouth revisionist Zionists who want to expel Arabs from the "West Bank" but they are a distinct minority who are having their opinions amplified by the engagement seeking legacy media. The vast majority are more than willing to share the land. But it takes two to tango, and there is no one on the Palestinian side who has the courage to challenge centuries of Muslim thinking about statehood, in fact the defacto leader, Abbas, who is 20 years into his 4 year term has stated multiple times that not a SINGLE JEW will be allowed to live in the Palestinian state.

Bibi letting Gazans have work permits is not the same. Do you think Gazans shouldn't be allowed to work outside of Gaza?

Aside from financing Hamas, Qatar also supports regional terrorist networks, such as the Muslim Brotherhood. And several charities in Qatar support al-Qaeda.

The Times of Israel articles you cite claim Israel "propped up Hamas" because it allowed Gazans to have work permits to work abroad. Could you imagine the international outcry if it didn't? There were not enough jobs in Gaza to sustain the population. Same with Israel allowing Qatar to pay the salaries of Gazan civil servants, so vital infrastructure services could continue. It was necessary to sustain the Gaza population. Sadly, Hamas diverted that money, just like Hamas is diverting food shipments and medical aid to Gaza. You can blame Bibi for a lot of things, but you can't blame him for that.

So you saying we should stop giving aid to Gaza because it is "propping up Hamas"?

Whether they are silly or not will be determined by the inquiry that keeps on being put off by the ongoing war. What is not in dispute is October 7 was the greatest failure in intelligence since the six days war, and perhaps ever. The buck stops at the PM's desk.

Because I am sure you can find many "Israeli reports" that document how Hamas diverts US aid going to Gazans.

in control of Israeli government aren't going to stop or respect any sovereignty for the Palestinians. It is not unlike Lebanon where Hezbollah told their government they would turn in their weapons if Israel would withdraw completely. Israel has not but some Lebanese officials are claiming Hezbollah is at fault for not turning over weapons. It's a chicken and egg matter and in nearly all cases Israel has never lived up to it's agreements. It's always some this or that they hang onto in order to keep territory and troops in place.

In the Middle East the experience has always been the same for over 100 years as far as trying to make agreements with the West and/or Israel. Ibn Saud put it well in the '50's when he said about the British "The British were a people of "but". They made statements and gave you assurances but always at the end "but". That description applies to the rest of the world as well. In the end everybody is jockeying for their own self interests rather than an honest concern for the future of the people from the region. It's all about power and control of one of the most important regions on earth.
