Russia ramps up offensives on 2 fronts in Ukraine as both sides seek an advantage before the fall

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — An emboldened Russia has ramped up military offensives on two fronts in Ukraine, scattering Kyiv’s precious reserve troops and threatening to expand the fighting to a new Ukrainian region as each side seeks an advantage before the fighting season wanes in the autumn.

Moscow aims to maximize its territorial gains before seriously considering a full ceasefire, analysts and military commanders said. Ukraine wants to slow the Russian advance for as long as possible and extract heavy losses.

Kremlin forces are steadily gaining ground in the strategic eastern logistics hub of Pokrovsk, the capture of which would hand them a major battlefield victory and bring them closer to acquiring the entire Donetsk region. The fighting there has also brought combat to the border of the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region for the first time.

In an effort to prevent Moscow from bolstering those positions in the east, Ukrainian forces are trying to pin down some of Russia’s best and most battle-hardened troops hundreds of kilometers away, in the northeast Sumy region.

If you watch reports on Ukraine on just DU it seems like the Ukrainians are holding the line and even pushing back as well as destroying all types of military hardware including radar, rocket launchers, helicopters, fighter jets and bombers as well as destroying many of the factories that are producing vital parts for drones, explosives and other weapons. Russian fighters are also getting decimated without enough young “recruits” to replace them thus North Korea sending an additional 5000 men. Of course Trump wants to cut back on our arms shipments and ease up on sanctions against Russia. I don’t understand why the AP. Makes it seem so dire. Well I can think of a bunch of reasons but none of them reflect the truth.

I'm sure they're rational and not conspiratorial at all.

I’m not saying AP is lying just not laying out an accurate picture of what’s going on. Lying by omission? I generally like the AP. Conspiracy theories are only conspiracy theories until they’re proven true. I can think of a bunch of possible reasons. i’ll keep my speculations to myself..

You're being evasive.

If there's a story out there showing that Russia's war of attrition is suffering setbacks, please share. They don't care if they lose equipment and troops; they have more than Ukraine does.

and in marked contrast to all the videos being posted recently and for 2 years that make it sound like Russia is losing. You'd think by now, based on those videos, that with so many huge Ukraine victories after victories, they'd be about at the stage where they are mopping up the last bit of Russian resistance at the tip of the Kamchatka Peninsula.

I really do hate to say this, as I've been displaying the Ukrainian flag as my avatar since the beginning of the 2022 invasion (whenever they became available on DU).
