CNN Says There's "Nothing Illegal" About Reporting On ICE Sighting App As Trump Administration Threatens Network With DO

Source: Deadline

CNN defended its report on a new app that tracks sightings of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in users’ areas.

Trump administration officials have warned the network that it has sought Justice Department guidance to see if the network can be prosecuted over the report, which was published on Monday.

A CNN spokesperson said on Tuesday, “This is an app that is publicly available to any iPhone user who wants to download it. There is nothing illegal about reporting the existence of this or any other app, nor does such reporting constitute promotion or other endorsement of the app by CNN.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told reporters on Tuesday that “we’re working with the Department of Justice to see if we can prosecute [CNN] for that. What they are doing is actively encouraging people to avoid law enforcement activities and operations. We are actually going to go after them and prosecute them.” She did not say which law she believed that CNN had violated.

So ICE raids will soon start by blocking cell towers in the area they intend to target.

Not bad

Of course, with a 5 mile radius, half of Manhattan would be alerted if it was used there.

Also, the company said they aren't going to do an Android version supposedly because of anonymity issues (see Bluesky link below).

Sorry, there will not be an Android version because there is no way to provide 100% anonymity. Each person's device ID would have to be stored and that information becomes discoverable should the government issue a subpoena.

Only iOS made this possible and completely protects the users.

only by unfortunately (fortunately for us) following ICEholes's cars without knowing they are ICEholes's cars...

Like the Pinochet regime used to do in Chile... tens of thousands disappeared never to be seen again!

History repeats.

Imagine stupid gullible magats caught by their own fascist wishes... (and votes). It will happen to them too.

...to avoid law enforcement activities and operations. We are actually going to go after them and prosecute them.”

In a related story, Moen said she would also actually seek deportation for motorists who flash their high-beams at oncoming drivers as a signal of a speed trap ahead. "Auto manufacturers who put high-beam headlights on their cars are actively encouraging people to avoid law enforcement activities and operations, as are all media outlets that advertise these vehicles. Such advertising encourages people to buy and use them in this flouting-the-law manner.

They haven't been. Just because an opinion piece bothers you doesn't mean CNN is doing anything wrong. And reporting on this app is what real news stations do.Start yelling about Fox, folks. They're the ugly evil in this country.

🔥 The challenge has been thrown.

NOTHING will happen because no grand jury would ever indict him for using his first amendment rights.
