DNC boots David Hogg and another vice chair from their roles
Source: Politico
Democratic National Committee members removed David Hogg his vice chair position discharging the 25-year-old activist and another vice chair from national party posts amid his threats to take on ineffective Democratic incumbents in primaries.
The virtual vote, which concluded on Wednesday and the results were obtained by POLITICO, vacated its two vice chair positions, stemming from a procedural complaint unrelated to Hoggs primary activities, and put forth a plan to hold a new election. Hogg and Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta must now run again for their positions next week.
The election offers a potential reset for a party thats dealt with a series of Hogg-related controversies in recent weeks.
In April, Hogg announced the group that he co-founded, Leaders We Deserve, planned to drop $20 million on safe-seat Democratic primaries, hoping to oust asleep-at-the-wheel Democrats. The move triggered a wave of anger from elected officials and DNC members alike, who vented that Hoggs role as a party leader conflicted with the decision to take on incumbents.
The internal drama exploded again over the weekend, when POLITICO reported on leaked audio from a DNC meeting in which Chair Ken Martin told Hogg and other DNC leaders that his leadership has suffered due to the clash. The vice chair, Martin said, had essentially destroyed any chance I have to show national leadership.

(26,777 posts)Actually to me it does not seem unreasonable. You have to pay salaries, taxes, rent, travel expenses, etc, all those expenses that support a very active campaign organization. The salary also does not seem terribly unreasonable.
So as I said while I have no idea what it takes to run a highly visible and active PAC, it would be good to see the expenses for other PAC's before I would make a judgement on the expenses and Hogg's salary.

I thought Hogg defended his approach well (citing historical precedent) and it's clear that it was a "rules for thee but not for me" sort of mindset among some in the committee. Maybe he'll get elected again but I think it's for the best if he focuses on his PAC.

(1 post)Why did the DNC wait for so long before deciding they had broken their own rules for elections? That should be the sort of thing you notice right away. Or maybe they do it all the time so that if someone starts causing problems, they can say 'ooops, we ignored our own rules months ago, need to redo your election!'
Aren't the DNC voters the sitting members of congress, living POTUS and Veeps? They should know how voting rules work.

Hogg is working AGAINST that.

(429 posts)Democrats need something other than the same-old, same-old. If new voices and new tactics don't rise to the occasion, it is all over. Politicians who aren't making waves and fighting the traditional avenues will not help any of us. Of 212 Democrats in the House of Representatives and how many have made their mark? How many do we recognize for their advocacy? I pay quite a bit of attention to House business and I don't think I could name more than 25 who fight for their constituents. This is why I think the younger generations should take over for a lot of do-nothing, seemingly-tenured incumbents.
In the house, 56 democrats are over 70 years old. 30 republicans. In the current congress, only 16% of House and Senate members are younger than 45. (New York Times from June 4 of this year "The Age Issue".

(10,709 posts)This sentence encapsulates why some people balk about the DNC at times, including our young Mr. Hogg.
Now I perfectly understand that the mission of the DNC is Democratic majorities but that is a very different mission than rubber-stamping incumbents which that line would clearly imply to the average listener. We can't say we need a different approach then punish people for taking a new approach. My only rub with what he did is that as a DNC vice-chair he should not be publicly directing or orchestrating a non-DNC PAC to do anything.
What we should be doing is fielding the best candidates for the job.
Sitting back and running on autopilot while recycling the old guard is not going to cut it anymore.
I can hear the pushback already. I'm not saying all old members of Congress or incumbents are bad. I am saying that being an incumbent should never be an automatic golden ticket to DNC endorsement/support.

What To Know
A Quinnipiac University Poll of 1,265 registered voters nationwide, conducted between June 5 and June 9, found that disapproval of Democrats in Congress has increased since a February poll.
Seventy percent of participants said they disapprove of how Democrats are handling their jobs in Congress, while 21 percent approve. Among Democrats, 53 percent disapprove, and 41 percent approve. Just 9 percent of Republicans approve of Democrats' performance, while 84 percent disapprove.
A similar Quinnipiac University poll of 1,039 registered voters in February found that 68 percent of participants disapproved of congressional Democrats and 52 percent disapproved of congressional Republicans.

(7,683 posts)For a short time he didn't get a fair shake on the debate schedule but that got fixed. When the E-mails got hacked the media reported that they found the DNC has screwed Bernie but all there was was a few of them saying negative things about him amongst themselves. That was understandable because Bernie kept making false accusations about the DNC. I went through every E-mail. Nothing. They didn't hurt Bernie. Bernie lost because he's too extreme.
I never heard of them doing anything to AOC.
Its the "progressives" that always screw the party, not the other way around. Many of them wouldn't vote for Hillary and some even hated her so much they voted for Trump. They cost us Al Gore and I've never seen a single one say that was a mistake. I've seen David Hogg is spreading those same lies and they'll peel off all they can in 2026 and try to keep us from getting a good shot at Trump.
That is why the right loves David Hogg. The Daily Signal is a publication of the Heritage Foundation, the same bozos who brought us project 2025. Look at how much the kiss Hogg's ass and play his game: i bet half that money Hogg has collected came from Republicans.

(18,268 posts)"DNC boots Hogg...and another vice chair".
First of all, they didn't "boot" anyone. This was a procedural move to allow a new vote to rectify a discrepancy in the previous election where the DNC failed to follow its own rules. Hogg isn't "booted", he would just be required to run again for his post...which he's said he's not going to consider.
Second, David Hogg this David Hogg that...Ask yourself why this dude is the only person being mentioned in the headlines. That "other vice chair" actually has a name and, fun fact, will be running for his seat in the redo election. Malcolm Kenyatta has a name...he actually has been working his ass off for the party since his election, unlike some folks who seem to prefer making an ass out of themselves on podcasts and the interview circuit.
These headlines are meant to sow distrust in the party and are playing to the same type of disunity some tried and successfully used in 2016, and in 2024 frankly. Don't stop at headlines folks. We have to be educated and understand what's actually going on and not fall for misinformation and spin.
