Platner hasn't officially withdrawn yet. He'll sign the papers on the deadline day Monday, July 13.Democrat Graham Platner is set to formally withdraw from the Maine Senate race on Monday, after announcing Wednesday that he was suspending campaign operations amid mounting controversy.
A source close to the campaign confirmed to The Hill that Platner has privately told staff hell file paperwork to drop out on Monday.
Thats the last day Platner can drop out in order to let Maine Democrats choose a new nominee.
Under Maine law, Platner needs to formally exit by 5 p.m. on July 13, at which point the party would have until that time on July 27 to put forward a replacement.

===========================
Graham Platner privately told staff that he is planning to officially file paperwork to end his Senate campaign on Monday the drop-dead deadline for him to exit the race.
Why it matters: Though Democrats largely appear to think Platner is done with his bid, his last-minute timing is likely to cause a final pang of anxiety within the party.
Driving the news: Platner made the comments to his team Wednesday night shortly before he announced publicly he was suspending his campaign.
As of about 1 p.m. Thursday, Platner had not officially withdrawn from the race, according to the Maine Secretary of State.

(184,678 posts)If Platner stays him, Collins will beat him easily. There are reports that the Collins campaign is upset because they wanted to run against Platner

The whisper in those circles is apparently that a group supporting the Collins campaign had *more* claims against Planter that came up during oppo research - they had intended to use them during the election cycle.
There is genuine concern about their ability to defeat a Dem candidate with both Mills and Planter not at the forefront.
Planter dropping out has led to an all hands on deck response among the States GOP leadership.
Collins has a ton of oppo on Platner that she was saving. I am hope that she does not get a chance to use it

(48,260 posts)Collins was waiting until it was too late for him to drop out. She had no reason to release it before that. His last day to drop out is this Monday.

(135,781 posts)everyone. I do not trust him one iota.
May he, and all involved, receive everything they deserve.
What's wrong with dropping out tomorrow? It's a workday. Why exactly is he waiting until Monday? Come Monday, what if nobody can find him?

(99,237 posts)If he doesn't drop out, we have lost Maine. We all know that Collins has much more on him.

(321,777 posts)what I read last night that it was a done deal.
Not so.
I wonder if his advisors, who invented his background and story, are pushing this.. or just all on him?
LisaL
(48,260 posts)even his advisors told him to drop out. So it appears to be all his idea.

(321,777 posts)Now that you mention it, I did read that Jon Favreau said in so many words to drop out.
TY LisaL.

(99,237 posts)His speech? He took no responsibility for his past behavior and it is all everyone elses fault.
Cha
(321,777 posts)like what's his name... only obviously not on such an ugly, gaudy, grandiose scale.
Oh, the "speech". I've read a few descriptions that sound just like him. But I haven't been in the mood to be more pissed than I already am at the sexaual abusing against women.

(99,237 posts)Frightening that he thought his past was nothing...the old boys will be boys' routine.
Cha
(321,777 posts)at the last second? Make those who want to get to work on electing a Democrat without any "sexual abuse history against women", Wait?
That sounds like him and his history.
I fervently hope he doesn't pull one of his Planter moves.

(3,338 posts)I made a post last night about this after watching his speech. It was clear to me that he said he was only suspending his campaign, not withdrawing. I asked if that means he is still technically on the ballot.
I deleted the post to avoid confusion after being reassured that he would indeed be withdrawing and it was just the first steps in winding down his campaign.
So I ask again, if he does not withdraw what happens?
Because I do not have any faith or trust in him that he will.
LisaL
(48,260 posts)he needs to do the paperwork to formally withdraw his name from consideration. Right now he apparently claims he will do it on Monday, the last day to do so. If he actually doesn't, he stays on the ballot.
