(96,535 posts)7. "I learned of my father's passing from a news report on social media. Not the hospital, not law enforcement."
Ronaldo said his family found out something had happened to his father around 7 a.m. He said that about an hour later, he saw a Facebook post about ICE activity near the intersection of Wayside and Canal, which is close to the family's home.
Around 8:30 a.m., he got to the scene and saw his father's van, but there was no sign of him. He said he called around before seeing another video on social media showing that his dad had been shot. He said he recognized him immediately from his voice as he was crying for help while lying on the street bleeding.
He said he found out his father died through a news report on social media.
"I learned of my father's passing from a news report on social media. Not the hospital, not law enforcement," Ronaldo said.
Ronaldo said his father, after 35 years of living in America, had started the process of obtaining a work permit. He said he was close to getting his legal status.
"That's how I want the world to know my father, not as someone who got shot and killed, but as a family man, a man who understood that good things come to those who put in hard work," Ronaldo said.
According to records, Salgado did not have a criminal history in Harris County and has held a Texas driver's license since 1993.
