NYT: In recent days, Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) has fielded calls gauging his interest in a run for Senate, according to two people familiar with those conversations who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private discussions.

(5,268 posts)Platner was a risk several levels, and at this point Golden might be as good as it gets, I am afraid...

(2,346 posts)Or is there some mustache twirling villain out there generating fake rape claims on any man via screenshots of chats from 3 years ago who also just happens to have a long history of mistreating women (by his own admission)?
What's the conspiracy theory here?
AloeVera
(4,726 posts)It just requires the will and the stomach to do the dirty deed.
There is no conspiracy in pointing out that two things can be true at the same time: Platner could be guilty (contemporaneous evidence supports that) AND there was coordination and coaching as his campaign claims by political opponents from out of state who are "establishment operatives".
Then the question becomes who the establishment operatives are and what their motive was as that is directly related to motive, fallout and consequences.

(2,346 posts)It's conspiracy garbage to care more about needing to claim it's a smear or hit job instead of a man suddenly learning about the consequences of his actions.
The people I know who have helped publicize the rape are people like Cheyenne Hunt. She's hardly establishment as she brought forth the stories of Swalwell. Then there are the now embarrassed progressives who accept they overlooked Platner's history. Chuck Schumer wasn't pushing this story. Blaming unnamed "establishment figures" is just shifting blame away from the guy who's responsible Platner himself and the people who supported him because they were fine ignoring his entire adult life.

(3,524 posts)Everything I saw suggests everything behind the accusations were incredibly well sourced and corroborated. What might I be missing?
TBF
(37,773 posts)the accusations could be genuine, and AIPAC could've jumped on an opportunity.
Golden had announced last year that he was done with politics, and I kind of forgot about him. I shouldn't have - he takes a lot of donations from AIPAC and had that horrible vote for Trump. https://thedemlabs.org/2026/04/16/jared-golden-iran-war-vote-follow-the-money-2026/
We'll see what happens. But I won't be surprised if Golden suddenly is interested in politics again.

(37,773 posts)OK, so it's AIPAC behind this? He gets almost as much money from AIPAC as Susan does. Figures.
