And the party will install Jared Golden.
Couple of things: Golden can probably win Maine, but he is going to be ideologically Fetterman. Had Fetterman any ideology left in his melted brain.

Donna Brazile, a former chair of the Democratic National Committee, suggested in a social media post it was time for Platner to end his campaign. Sure, take the rest of the day and night. Tomorrow, we need a plan and Mr. Platner can step aside and focus on his family and well-being, Brazile wrote on X.
Well, that's one "democratic socialist" down.

I have a hard time believing she is concerned about him being in public office when she evidently had no concern he would rape someone else

(105,268 posts)On the ballot. I suspect that the officials will go with someone who was running for the seat in the first place, that would mean either Mills or Costello, they ranked high in the ranked choice vote so it would make sense to go with one of them.
Golden is worthless and leaving politics, he'd be worse than fetterman.
LisaL
(48,176 posts)He or she doesn't have to be on the ballot. But Platner has to drop out first.

(2,346 posts)Golden is leaving politics and his approval rating is garbage. It wouldn't satisfy any voters in Maine. The party really isn't out to get progressives no matter how much of a persecution complex you have about it.
And Fetterman was running to the left of Connor Lamb when he ran for Senate. Just because you don't like his positions now, doesn't mean he ran as a centrist being shoved down your throat. He was endorsed by Bernie Sanders. He was the progressive candidate in that primary. Whether it was the stroke or something else, he hasn't voted like one and that can always happen. You make the best choices you have with the information available at the time.

(3,302 posts)I really don't know how they pick the replacement, or even who picks the replacement. Maine has a few solid choices though. There were a few candidates who all ran for Governor and only one could win. Hannah Pingree won that primary contest so the other Democratic candidates for Governor might be options as well.

(3,606 posts)(hiding crimes) he shouldn't have run because truth will out. Bad move on Platner's part and I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt earlier in the process. I do think to avoid this shit, at the national and state levels, there needs to be better examination and vetting of candidates. The fact Maine only had Platner or Mills is just dumb. We need to get our fucking shit together.
