(23,162 posts)In the 1760's / 70's, the average Londoner was taxed at a much higher rate than the American colonists. They simply had an MP and colonists didn't. Beyond that minor issue, if cooler heads, mainly Pitt the elder, and British pragmatism prevailed, the whole thing could have been avoided. We're really a product of hubris and foolish escalation. On both sides of the Atlantic.
