(61,264 posts)I think the most recent KY rule is it needs to be filled by a special election. I doubt they want to have a longer time than necessary to fill the seat. As there already are nominees for each party for the seat, I wonder if they can go straight to a special general election.
He very likely is alive and his family is dealing with his health issues. Out of respect for them, we should simply be saying we wish him well.
Note that his absence means one less Republican vote in the Senate. Filling the seat, either with Mcconnell if he recovers or another Republican should be important to them.
