A top doctor has warned that President Donald Trumps much-hyped July 4 rally is potentially fatal.
Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a cardiologist and CNN medical analyst, urged the cancellation of Trumps Washington, D.C. rally for Americas 250th birthday, citing sweltering temperatures that could put attendees at risk.
The same way the outdoor inauguration was canceled last year because of the cold, the rally on the Mall this July 4 should be canceled because of the intense heat (> 100 degrees), he wrote in an X post on Thursday.
Dangerous weather and large crowds is a bad combination, Reiner warned. The doctor has been one of the few medical experts to demand answers about the 80-year-old presidents health, citing his Oval Office slumps and odd examination schedule.

(61,262 posts)I wonder if they will do anything for the people coming. I think putting up large shades that can be taken down at night fall would have been possible if they actually had considered it.
I'm past summers, in very hot weather many restaurants in Manhattan with outdoor areas had something that created a very fine mist that was refreshing at the ends of their space.
I hope they will at least be proving cold bottles of water. Free, if possible. (They should have money left from not paying the costs of top musicians.)

(29,465 posts)He'll cancel, not because he doesn't want to be there, but because he's concerned with the health of his supporters. And the fools will believe that.

(3,170 posts)But the post speech fireworks for 45 minutes, along with the heat, are concerning.
90 degrees?
I just came in from watering some new plantings - I started at 7:30 am - it's now 87 degrees and I'm absolutely spent.
I'm sitting here with a tall glass of ice water trying to recover. Yes it will only be 90 degrees, but those there will most likely have been there for quite some time.
I was not watering in the sun - ferns in shady spots.

(26,897 posts)considering the attendance at his events so far.
But some people might turn out for the fireworks since that's traditional for the holiday.
ETA: At least not much to worry about regarding a crowd at his speech and other events during the day.
The fireworks, though, could be a cause of concern because Trump always hires the cheapest, most incompetent people. They could burn down DC. Good thing there might be rain to put out a possible fire.

(5,236 posts)of posters, on touting the event, the other the dos and don't. The couple of things I remember were no coolers, lawn chairs, back packs, no outside food and drink (forcing people to buy such, if there are food and drink vendors there; or causing people to fast and become dehydrated, because there are no food and drink vendors there). The other thing that I thought was weird was that they weren't going to let anyone in after 5p.m.

No need to go anyway. You can see fireworks from a distance.
I hope people skip the grounds and have fireworks tailgate parties.

(12,173 posts)I anticipate heat stroke events and maybe even deaths if he goes ahead with this madness. 100+ degrees, high humidity, no water, no shade, the president promises to give a long, LONG speech to "prove he can do anything", fireworks don't start till 11 or later.
Basically, this is my vision of Hell.
