Booker pointed to three Democrats who he thinks represent the future of the party Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia, Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico and Roy Cooper, the former governor of North Carolina and current Senate candidate.
"People are suffering, people are hurting, and they're going to support the leaders," Booker said. "And I'm seeing this in Talarico, in Ossoff, in Cooper in North Carolina, that those leaders are stepping up and saying, 'I don't give a damn about parties. I care about people.' You cannot lead the people if they don't trust you, and that's what's lacking right now with the party apparatus."

(584 posts)Apparently not everyone is as willing to continue in the minority, and to watch the country be plundered and degraded as you are, but we try to keep the tent as big as possible so you're welcome to your opinion.

(15,913 posts)Now THAT is an attack, a personal one.
NO ONE here at DU (aside from rightwing trolls not ousted yet) is "willing" to let all that happen. Reclaiming the majority and stopping the plunder & destruction of our government & democracy is something WE ALL WANT.
You can make a logical argument based of facts that the leadership of the Democratic Party needs refreshing, and engage in a civil discussion to better understand where our ally is coming from.
In fact, I highly recommend it.
We're all stressed and angry about what's happening, but should take a deep breath before lashing out.

(15,657 posts)You can certainly praise Ossoff and Mamdani to the heavens - and say they are exactly what we need as leaders, and in the future. All WITHOUT the necessity of slurring the 'party' and 'party apparatus'.
It is this gratuitous (read 'unnecessary' for the unlettered) slander - directed unequivocally and intentionally straight at allies - that goes against ... And, no - it doesn't do a damned thing toward strengthening the party, winning elections, or taking back power. But - I guess it makes certain people feel like they are 'doing something' Yay!
Others think that maybe Cory could stand to grow up a little ...
But you are welcome to your opinion.

(15,913 posts)But he's not among the generation of young leaders to carry us into the future. If he wins, he'll be 75 at the end of his first term as senator.

(6,542 posts)I think Chris Murphy is a stronger leader than the other three.
The other three have their qualities...but. I think Ossoff is a great orator, and has a strong future in the party, but he he needs to put in more time to get the chops for leadership. IMHO, opinion Roy Cooper is too much canned southern politician rhetoric. Talarico is good, but a little bit too focused on religiosity, IMHO. I think they both come off as a one trick pony.
I don't know why Booker thinks he is the voice of the future of the party. What is he up to?
