It paints the GOP as more successfully flooding the zone with its messaging and Democrats as too feeble and limited to fight back as hard.
At times, it seems Democrats are trying to win arguments while Republicans are focused on winning elections, the report says. Democrats operate in an ecosystem defined by reason even in cycles when the electorate is defined by rage.
It repeatedly faults Democrats for not being always on and messaging harder.
The difference is right-wing interests take a longer-term approach and amplify polarizing messaging and candidates within the Democratic family with the intention of othering all Democrats, the report says. Without aggressive pushback and tactics, it works.

(964 posts)Is democrats tend to be more thoughtful and educated. I don't know that screaming talking points would motivate our questioning, thoughtful base. It wouldn't work for me. I turn off talking points without reasoning.

(41,108 posts)What's wrong with trying to distill a complex message down to a soundbite? Tax cuts don't matter if you don't have a job. I saw that bumper sticker back in the Bush years, but never anything half as clever from the DNC. If we're the smart party we should do a better job of marketing. I am really disappointed with the Party right now & almost believe they'd rather be out of power so they have an excuse why they can't do anything. Earlier this year I counted the congressional dems that I was aware of speaking out against what's going on on a regular basis & it was about 10% of our members. I realize they don't have the numbers, but damnit, they have a voice! Chris Murphy calls this a 5-alarm fire & he's right, but the dem response has been like a few embers popped out of the fireplace.

(41,108 posts)I just think a 5-alarm fire deserves a more urgent response from the party as a whole, a sort of unified voice of democratic outrage. And they could use humor to express it. In fact that would be better. The DNC should hire some comedians & cartoonists, perhaps.

That's the main difference. When the people that own everything are backing you...
