Under the radar Iowa senate race - Democratic debate tonight!
The Iowa senate race hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as some others like Maine or Texas, but I believe we do have a shot here, especially in the current environment with Democrats being very charged up to vote and Republicans souring on Trump.
The primary is June 2nd.
Democratic candidates are:
State representative Josh Turek
* Represented the U.S. in wheelchair basketball at the Summer Paralympics 4 times
* Fun fact: won his 2022 Iowa House race by just 6 votes
* Endorsements from Tammy Duckworth, Catherine Cortez Masto, Maggie Hassan, Ro Khanna
State senator Zach Wahls
* Gained fame for a 2011 address to the Iowa House Judiciary Committee on a proposed ban on gay marriage
* Fun fact: After his address when viral, journalist Chloe Angyal wrote an article in 2011 entitled "Marry Me, Zach Wahls", they later met and married
* Endorsements from Elizabeth Warren, Howard Dean, Dave Loebsack
There has not been a lot of polling, but the latest from a Republican pollster showed both Dem candidates with a small lead. This was a small poll with a larger MOE. Older polls from Democratic-aligned pollsters showed Ashley Hinson with a lead of a few points.
The debate is tonight on Iowa PBS and will be available on their YouTube channel:
