on Easter morning to impeach him. Thousands would be in the streets protesting and demanding he be deported or lynched. The hacks on tv would be running it 24/7 until he was deposed.
What do we get instead? WHITEWASHING.
I hate what America has become. I hate this regime. I hate this media.
In case some have missed it:
Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin Strait, you crazy bastards, or youll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP

(22,263 posts)Seems Donnie is stuck in an escalation trap. An escalation doesn't achieve the desired outcome. It just causes one's opponent to escalate further. Which brings even more escalation, tit for tat, on and on and on. Similar to to the old adage of throwing good money after bad. Iranians will target Gulf State desal and further attacks on fossil fuel infrastructure. And it won't open the strait. Both of which will cause massive short and long term economic calamity for everyone on the globe.
If we survive, we'll look back at this as the time Donnie fucked it up for everyone. Literally everyone.

I don't have proof.
It is, however, the end of America's pretense that we are in any way the Good Guys.

(3,058 posts)If so, where has that trolling sarcasm gotten us? Higher gas prices? Dead troops? Allies who hate us? Jobs lost? Markets fluctuating? Prices higher? Healthcare taken away? Even more trillions in debt?
Dont mind me if I want someone whos serious about governing and not trolling, because trolling has gotten us nowhere.

(38,764 posts)It was incredibly inappropriate and it wasn't funny at all. But it was sarcastic and it was trolling. He thinks he's an insult comic when he's just a cruel asshole who never puts himself in front of people who'd dare to boo.
Trolling gets no one anywhere ever. It's designed to destroy discussion, and it does so every day, every where on the internet.

(2,857 posts)Remember that in Obama's first 2 years, Dems had a HUGE majority (by today's standards) in BOTH the House (257-178) and Senate (59-41).
I assume by "they", you mean the Republicans who had a much smaller minority than we have today. And you are right. Republicans would have been all over every media outlet. They would be on the steps of the Capitol. They would be screaming bloody murder to anyone who would listen. And they would be making strong demands.
Where are the Democrats, now that the tables are reversed? See the problem?
We really can't blame the Republicans if we aren't willing to act like a real opposition party.

(170,004 posts)No.
It's been posted about, including the videos of appearances, but it often gets yawns.
I know much of the news that I look for tries to answer "What are Democrats doing?" And the few who respond basically consider the response inadequate.
If you really want to see what we are doing, turn on CSPAN because they will air what the cable and OTA refuse to show (I.e., we own none of that so have no say).

(2,857 posts)We have weak leadership in the House. We have ANTI-leadership (if such a thing is possible) in the Senate. And we have no leadership (yet) from what would be a consensus Presidential candidate.
We could be having 100X more impact than what we are having if we didn't have a history of 30-40 years of no strong and consistent advocacy of benefits and solutions that help the average American. Individual Dems often say the right things. But there is power in a unified voice and that requires a level of leadership we have not had for a long time.

(170,004 posts)are an artifact of the what happened at the end of 45's first term that ended with a lethal pandemic and economic collapse. followed by Biden's win in 2020, essentially aiming to attract independents/non-affiliateds (who are an increasing percent of the population). It was built upon during Biden's term with the 2022 party holds, despite the tradition of big swings of voter allegiance during mid-terms, although there was fraying setting in.
Since the 2024 election, with a chain-saw wielding billionaire Muskrat, who spent a quarter billion of his own money to "buy the election" (along with a number of other nefarious billionaire "tech bros" ), plus a lunatic operating at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the whole environment has dramatically changed, and it will take some time to adapt.
A number of the older generation are finally stepping away and that is where we are - attempting to adjust to a completely unprecedented situation where the current occupant of the WH owns the GOP-majority Congress and controls the SCOTUS.
The same old tired DU mantra of "stomping feet" and "pounding podiums" is not going to get us there by itself.
People define "leadership" differently and it might be best to focus on LOCAL "leadership" because despite all the efforts to ignore or get rid of it, "States Rights" is still a thing in the Constitution -
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

There is little "one size fits all" in this country and that is a thing that people refuse to accept.
People in rural areas don't give a shit about run-down housing and/or a general lack of affordable housing in urban areas.
THAT is a FACT.
People in urban areas don't give a shit about fertilizer shortages for farmers in rural areas or a lack of crop buyers due to the ridiculous tariffs and this ongoing war.
THAT is a FACT.
We keep trying to "force fit" messages to cover "everyone" and there is so much that it gets muddled, and people tune out.
The appearance of GOP "unity" is smoke and mirrors as you are now seeing that so-called "unity", coming apart. The reason why they appear "unified" is literally due to threats (of revealing something and/or literal death threats to themselves, families, and friends). IOW, it doesn't come "naturally" but through use of the "big stick". That is why a record number of the GOP are leaving Congress.
What should be the focus is what are Democrats in YOUR state doing?
(because so far this past year, that is where we are actually making some significant headway finally)
Bluetus
(2,857 posts)Naturally candidates need some flexibility to adjust the weight of the various elements of their pitch to the audience, but they must not give up the power of a strong unified message. It might not immediately make sense to talk about day care at a senior center, until one realizes that most of the people in the audience have children or grandchildren who are struggling to bring up their families in a healthy way.
Maybe a college campus is not an obvious place to discuss why billionaires should be paying a higher tax rate, because many of the students have dreams of becoming billionaires themselves. But we need to take that opportunity to educate the students WHY we need a fair and equitable society with the most successful people paying their fair share, to maintain the system that allows them to become so rich. We can do that while we also make the case for the commons: parks, transportation systems, arts, architecture, health care, national strategies for R&D, and so on.
No, I don't agree that we should only talk with farmers about pig shit and fertilizer. I know many people living in largely agricultural communities who understand a lot more than pig shit. Our approach with each candidate being a free agent is insulting, condescending, and IT HAS NOT WORKED. We have steadily lost power ever since FDR, and now we are living in hell COMPLETELY out of power.
WE CREATED TRUMP. WE GAVE HIM THE OPENING BY REFUSING TO LEAD ON A NATIONAL LEVEL.
BumRushDaShow
(170,004 posts)It HAS worked. It is actually how Bill Clinton got elected and is actually happening RIGHT NOW on the state/county/local levels, with individual candidates actually listening to their OWN constituents' needs and coming up with ways to address them because THAT is who they are serving.
Demanding that a Texan give up their guns because of the proliferation of "ghost guns" (3-D printed) in NYC is not a "unifying" message for locales like that, especially among the gun-owning Democrats there. It's the same as saying "defund the police" (which I understood the context of but which was twisted into something it wasn't).
Any "message" has to generate and tap into a psychological/impulsive issue, which is what the GOP has always done to attract voters.
Talking about millionaires and billionaires was done repeatedly in 2024 and people didn't care because they are so far removed from those people and unfortunately also like to watch programming that showcases their lifestyles and leisure activities.
"WE" who call ourselves Democrats, did no such damn thing. The GOP and their billionaire funders did that.
What they did was to prey on gut EMOTIONS - racism, sexism, homophobia, antisemitism, and xenophobia because "emotions work". It did for us with the overturning of Roe.

(2,857 posts)I hope and expect we will win the House in November. But that is almost a given in ANY mid-term election, and especially with an incumbent as despised as Trump. I get the same empty emails from the DNC that everybody else is getting. There is no story. No plan. No vision. No commitment. The only message is "We aren't Trump".
We are not doing any of the things necessary to earn a governing majority.
You and I evidently have entirely different ideas of the word "success."
BumRushDaShow
(170,004 posts)The way to solve this is to try out some new strategies at the state/county/local levels to see what "works".
We keep trying to RUSH things by focusing too much on Presidential years, while skipping over mid-terms and off-year elections, in some effort to "national" messaging that ignores our states.
Remember the oft-cited Howard Dean "50 State Strategy"? It's what helped to elect Barack Obama.
The "governing majority" is NOT coming out of some "national" election. It's coming from multiple state elections and together, they will form "the majority".
If anything, having the number of lawsuits that states have filed against 45 the past year, there are over 20 state governors and/or Attorney Generals who have been working together headlining those suits, and thus getting to know each other and the variations that are happening in these states.
I suggest you look to your state and local parties because they are going to be the ones driving what the "national" message will be IN TWO YEARS.
