DU Vets: Is Pete Kegsbreath positioning himself for a coup d'etat when Trump takes the dirt nap?

Trump's medical and mental status is rapidly deteriorating, Kegger is removing the top layer of military leaders. As horrible as DJT is, who has the authority to order the military to do things when he croaks?

Do military generals have mechanisms to refuse orders of a madman or to resist a coup attempt? I'd love to hear from military folks here.

Hegseth is trying to find the ones who are willing to cross that line. For whatever the longer term goal is.

I served 28.5 years in the Navy. I have been retired since 2010, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I have no 2026 "inside info".

My experience was that the military was a microcosm of America. You had about a 3rd that were conservative, a 3rd that were progressive and a 3rd that were: "I don't give a fuck, just don't cock it up". I could count on one-hand the number of times my Shipmates and I discussed politics. It just wasn't done.

A coup is hard. So is a Civil War. Who's going to get all the aircraft carriers on their side?

I am not dismissing the damage these fucksticks have done, but that damage is to "good order and discipline". Rest assured that if they try a coup, it would be with a hollowed out shell of a once great defense department. You'd have to control everything, down to the E3 that works the flight deck, or the E4 that makes the donuts. The military would destroy itself, before it allowed an asshat like Kegsbreath to prosecute a coup.

That being said, I think your could justify the next Dem President firing every fucking Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine above the E5 level, and every fucking federal law enforcement official hired since 2016 within the first 24 hours of his term.

At this point, it's going to be easier to tear this fucking shitshow down to the studs and start over.

Here's hoping we have the courage to rip this fucking cancer out of our government with the same zeal that implanted it.

I do think he's going to try something awful. He is power drunk. I'm just hoping there are enough patriots in the military to counteract or undermine the orders -- slow walk, sabotage, refuse - until we can get him out.

Post-Trump reconstruction of the nation could offer many good opportunities for young folks and the huge number of laid-off professionals desperate for good jobs and a chance at the American dream.
