Trump Advisers Urge Him to Find Iran Exit Ramp, Fearing Political Backlash

WASHINGTON—President Trump said he was eyeing a quick end to the war in Iran, as some of his advisers privately urged him to look for an exit plan amid spiking oil prices and concerns that a lengthy conflict could spark political backlash.

Speaking to reporters in Florida on Monday, Trump characterized the military mission as mostly having achieved its goals. “We’re way ahead of schedule,” he said, adding he thought it would be over “very soon.”. He didn’t provide a clear timeline for ending the Iran operation. When asked about helping the Iranian people who have risen up against the regime, Trump sounded ready for a quick conclusion rather than to continue to push for leadership change.

Some Trump administration officials said as long as Tehran continued to attack regional countries and Israel still wanted to strike Iranian targets, it was unlikely the U.S. could easily withdraw from the war. Trump, in his Monday remarks, said he was prepared to continue targeting Iran if the country continued blocking the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump won’t stop fighting until he can claim a satisfactory victory, a senior administration official said, especially when the U.S. has a military advantage. Trump has at times been surprised that Tehran won’t cave despite the unrelenting joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign, according to people familiar with his thinking.

Some of Trump’s advisers in recent days have encouraged him to articulate a plan to extract the U.S. from the war and make the case that the military had largely achieved its objectives, according to people familiar with the matter. While many in the president’s conservative base still support the initial operation, some of the president’s advisers have privately expressed concerns that a longer war could deplete that support. Trump has been briefed on some polling about the war, the people said. Public polls released in recent days show that most Americans oppose the war.

Getting this dog shit off of your shoe, Dump. This is what happens when absolutely no planning is done, and all of the professionals have been fired.

Then later on, Kegbreath will barge in, bellowing that they're just about to level up and they can't quit the game now. And tsf will probably agree with him because it's always about the last person to talk to him.

Course correction that is not forced upon him is off the table.

Left to his own devices, he is hellbent on the "Whatever it takes" path to hold power.

And we MUST find effective ways to Defend Ourselves and Defend Our Elections.

As Simon Rosenberg noted at the end of February:

In my talk this week I argued that Trump’s decision to double down on his failed and unpopular governing strategy (tariffs, ICE terror/mass deportations, cuts to health care/food assistance, etc) and not course correct meant that he had decided to pursue an illicit path to keep himself and Republicans in power, something I am calling the “whatever it takes” path. In a democracy when a leader is unpopular, and their policies aren’t working, they course correct and do things are that popular and good for people. Trump looked at that option, and chose another - the go-to-war/billions of dollars of corruptly & oligarch funded mid-term SuperPACs/mafia-like media and tech takeover/unending AI slop/unprecedented foreign active measures on his behalf/end free and fair elections/the whatever it takes path.

We cannot allow ourselves to be overwhelmed and immobilized by the "whatever it takes" onslaught they are putting in motion (the go-to-war/billions of dollars of corruptly & oligarch funded mid-term SuperPACs/mafia-like media and tech takeover/unending AI slop/unprecedented foreign active measures on his behalf/end free and fair elections/).

We can, and MUST act to defend ourselves.

It may not sound like much, but pouring whatever dollars you can into strengthening State Democratic Parties is a CRITICAL starting place. Every dollar given now can be put to work NOW -- and that's worth a hell of a lot more than dollars given to campaigns months from now.

Support Marc Elias's efforts. They have been in high gear, but for the onslaught that is coming, it's time to go all out.

Post additional ways to counter-attack.

Without regime change - if he just walks away and "declares victory" - we're looking at proxy terrorism on US soil. The Iranians will not forgive and forget and with good reason. Yet, if he stays in he'll bankrupt us all for a generation. He's fucked us all irredeemably.

Are you fucking kidding me? That's what they are worried about?!?

I think we didn't have an appreciation of what no traffic through the Strait of Hormuz means for the world.

Taiwan gets the majority of its LNG through there and that's what powers the country and powers all those semiconductor plants that build the electronic components we all depend on.

Fertilizer that helps feed the world comes through there.

Oil comes through there.

Places like China needs to get oil through there. They will run out of oil in a couple months (there isn't enough oil from Russia or the US or Canada or Mexico to kept them supplied) and I strongly suspect they will get very grumpy, very quickly and won't be happy with us.

A byproduct of oil processing is sulfur, which is used to make sulphuric acid, which in turn is used to make all kinds of stuff, especially electronic components.

I'm not saying that the Iran government were good people but this was NOT the way.
Especially with Israel destroying those storage facilities.
Especially with them killing the new leader of Iran's entire family, father, wife, children, all dead because of us.

If we were supposed to be "liberating the Iranian people" we sure went about it a crazy way. I don't think killing 200 children and blackening their skies and raining down acid on them is how you endear people to your cause.

There once was a man named Trump,
Who rang bells with theatrical thump.
When asked, “Did you win?”
He declared "yes" with a grin,
While Iran said, “That’s mostly just hump.”

He wagered how much he could bear,
Not what the true goals of war were.
Iran, calm and dry,
Let the pressure run high—
And waited to puncture his air.

He left with a banner of “Win!”
Though doubts echoed loudly within.
Tehran, with delight,
Planned day and night
To prove that the boast was just spin.

He might have stored oil in a vault,
Before trouble could grind to a halt.
But the reserves fell away
After war’s earlier fray—
Now hindsight is calling the fault.

He might have convinced Gulf kings too,
Before marching his plans into view.
But the goal wasn’t clear,
So they muttered, “Oh dear—
We’re not sure what this fellow will do.”

He might have told voters back home
That the war could be long as a tome.
But he skipped that whole talk,
Took a shortcut in chalk—
Now the timeline is starting to roam.

If learning were part of the game,
He’d see why the risks still remain:
A bruised Iran can still
Make the tankers sit still,
And frighten the markets again.

For drones can be built anywhere,
Not just in a fortress or lair.
From workshop to shed,
They can buzz overhead—
Hard targets for bombs in the air.

And ships through the strait must proceed
With caution and maritime heed.
For control of that lane
Isn’t easily gained—
Short of marching an army indeed.

So super genius thought the people who strap bombs to themselves would just knuckle under after a few air strikes.

Fucking moron.
