Shooting at Rhode Island ice rink leaves at least two people dead

At least two people are dead in an apparent mass shooting at an indoor ice rink in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, on Monday afternoon, officials told the WPRI local news outlet.

Police confirmed to the outlet that the suspect is dead. A local sports reporter, Branden Mello, said that one of the shooting victims also died.

The shooting allegedly took place during a boys’ hockey game between two local schools.

Shots came from behind the stands, according to Mello. He also reported that a local father is being hailed as a “hero” after grabbing a gun from the shooter, though the shooter also had a second weapon.

If anybody finds comfort in prayer, meditation, yoga or anything else that hurts nobody else, I support that 100%. But it is not a substitute for action and we cannot accept that, especially considering that the people suggesting nothing but thoughts and prayers are usually closer to the anti-Christ than the Christ.

My personal beliefs continue to evolve as we take tiny steps toward understanding little bits of the universe. My own philosophy does not include guardian angels and heavenly prayer minders, but the universe is vast, and we barely understand any of it. So I cannot criticize anybody else for how they think about the universe. Nonetheless, I will never accept a solution that is nothing but thoughts and prayers., and no actions in the here and now.

with the bulk of your post. It just sounded like you were saying that praying is worthless. I don't think it's either/or and I have always thought that prayer was begging God. I don't think it's has to be and I like the saying: "Prayer🙏 🤲🏻 is talking to God and meditation is listening 👂🏿 to God." 😊

In the great faith versus science debate, we have zero facts to support faith, but we may have only a 1% understanding of the universe from a scientific standpoint, so I don't see either side of that argument (if there is an argument) having a strong position. I don't start from a position of actively involved gods. But there is so much we don't yet understand about the universe, I don't think anything can be ruled out.

For example, science has established with strong evidence that there was a "big bang" and many decades of measurements seem to confirm that was about 14 billion Earth-years ago. For a long time, the prevailing thinking was that eventually the universe would stop expanding, and would eventually shrink back to a single point, and who knows what would happen after that?

But then, in 1933, the idea of "dark matter" was proposed. It was not until the 1970s that real measurements provided scientific evidence that dark matter exists. But even today, we can't measure it directly and prevailing thinking is that the invisible matter is actually much greater that the matter visible to us. That supported the theory that the universe would eventually collapse.

Until ... in 1998, "dark energy" was discovered, giving support to the ever-expanding universe theory. But the same mathematics that enabled those findings also predict MULTIPLE universes. etc etc etc.

What I am getting at is, one could regard the physics of our universe(s) to be a form of "god". So nobody really knows about any of this for sure, and we are nowhere near a scientific certainty about the future of the universe. So we all just try to get through life understanding things the best way we can. I think an active "eye on the sparrow" god is quite unlikely, but I can't tell you how the universe was created and how the laws of physics came to be. Did a "god" decide all that?

50. "Trump Derangement Syndrome" is a INSULT directed at Democrats.
Tue Feb 17, 2026, 02:15 PM

It's derived from "Obama Derangement Syndrome".

Here's the definition:

Trump derangement syndrome (TDS) is a pseudoscientific pejorative term used to describe negative reactions to U.S. president Donald Trump that are characterized as irrational and disconnected from Trump's actual policy positions.[1] The term has mainly been used by Trump supporters to discredit criticism of him, as a way of reframing the discussion by suggesting that his opponents are incapable of accurately perceiving the world.

-snip-

According to The Independent, "the highly-politicized term" was coined to dismiss criticism of Trump in his first term as liberal hysteria, suggesting that people abandon all logic and reason due to their dislike of the president.

Trump and his top communication advisers, including current White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and communications director Steven Cheung, have repeatedly accused many critics of having a "severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome". The phrase has also been used by Republican politicians and talk show hosts. Newsweek was also accused of suffering from TDS by Cheung. Democrats and others have contended that it is not a legitimate condition, and no clinical data supports its existence and that instead, it is a label used to dismiss criticism of him.

Examples:

Senator Rand Paul has cited the so-called syndrome several times. In a July 16, 2018, interview he said investigators should simply focus on election security and stop "accusing Trump of collusion with the Russians and all this craziness that's not true"—accusations which he said were entirely motivated by "Trump derangement syndrome"

In July 2018, Jeanine Pirro was a guest on The View to promote her newly published book[which?]. While she was responding to a question about how the "deep state" really works, she accused co-host Whoopi Goldberg of suffering from Trump derangement syndrome.

In August 2018, Trump White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders used the term in a tweet: "Trump Derangement Syndrome is becoming a major epidemic among Democrats. Instead of freaking out about the booming Trump economy why not celebrate it?

In September 2018, Fox News personality and Trump supporter Sean Hannity criticized The Washington Post as having Trump derangement syndrome for stating in an editorial that Trump, because of his attitude toward climate change, is "complicit" in hurricanes battering the United States;[39][40] Hannity said, "it is now a full-blown psychosis, it is a psychological level of unhingement I have never seen."

In December 2025, following the killing of Rob and Michele Reiner, Trump suggested in a Truth Social post that Rob Reiner's death was caused by anger toward his "Trump derangement syndrome.

Republicans are trying to get it classified as a mental illness affecting liberals and progressives:

A group of Minnesota Senate Republicans introduced a bill[52] in March 2025 that seeks to classify "Trump Derangement Syndrome" as a mental illness and incorporate it into the state's legal definition through amended statutes.[32] The bill has proposed that the "syndrome" as the "acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal persons that is in reaction to the policies and presidencies of President Donald J. Trump" which should be recognized in legal and medical contexts.[53][18] The bill also states that the symptoms may include "Trump-induced general hysteria, which produces an inability to distinguish between legitimate policy differences and signs of psychic pathology in President Donald Trump's behavior" which can manifest as "intense verbal hostility toward Trump" and "overt acts of aggression and violence" towards Trump and MAGA supporters.[32][18] The Minnesota bill uses the same wording that Krauthammer used to describe Bush derangement syndrome.

So what was your point when you used a right wing insult?

Mon Feb 16, 2026, 10:44 PM

At a late-night news conference, Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said Dorgan also went by the name “Roberta,” and court documents show his gender identity played a role in multiple family disputes over recent years.

In early 2020, Dorgan went to the North Providence Police Department and reported he had recently undergone gender-reassignment surgery and that his father-in-law wanted him out of their North Providence home because of it.

-snip-

Around the same time, Dorgan’s then-wife Rhonda Dorgan filed for divorce. Under grounds for divorce, Rhonda initially wrote, “gender reassignment surgery, narcissistic + personality disorder traits.” Those reasons were then crossed out and replaced with “irreconcilable differences which have caused the immediate breakdown of the marriage.”

The divorce was finalized in June 2021, court records show.
