Newsweek is now using AI to write some of its news stories

Discovered this just tonight, skimming down the Newsweek story that's the source of this LBN thread:

VA Announces Change to Veteran Benefits
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143616788
https://www.newsweek.com/va-change-veteran-benefits-dic-survivors-11526561

At the bottom of the story Newsweek has this note:

Newsweek’s reporters and editors used Martyn, our AI assistant, to help produce this story. Learn more about Martyn.

In general, AI-written stories tend to have errors, and I was really sorry to see that Newsweek is now using AI.

They're not using it for ALL their stories - at least not yet. I checked the 10 most recent LBN threads with Newsweek as a source, and found 3 others written by AI.

But with tonight's story about VA benefits, 4 of the last 6 stories were AI-generated. Those 6 LBN threads on Newsweek stories were posted starting Friday. The 4 Newsweek-based threads posted Wednesday and Thursday of last week weren't AI-generated.

These are the three other LBN threads posted in the last few days where the Newsweek story was from Martyn the AI:

New York City Opens First Free Grocery Store

Lawmakers Barred From ICE Detention Center Visits Amid DHS Funding Lapse
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143616351

Epstein Files Update: DOJ Responds to Tracking Searches by Lawmakers
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143615625

I wouldn't consider an AI-written story from Newsweek a reliable source - wouldn't use it unless no other source was available, and then would include the info that it was written by AI.

I hope Newsweek.stories not identified as AI can be trusted.
