A dyslexic bad punctuation ramble ahead.
My friend is coming out of Maryland with freight headed back to our terminal. He suffers with compassion and empathy and disgust in us talking over the Renee Good murder.
This man is a gentle soul he is a former 11 series soldier as i yet a few years younger than me.
Yet before ending our conversation he once again reinforced how decent a human he is.
Him once again him speaking from memory when he was a young teenage grunt in the Gulf war.
Him riding in the back of his squads M2 word was coming down that they were breaching the fortifications and the Iraqis were being buried alive .
I got it that it was either them or us yet i felt for them and inside i just felt like puking at that time.
He once again repeats what he has told me before bro it wasnt the firefights. Our red tracers from suppression fire or the incoming green tracers from the Iraqi grunts that i remember.
Its we just buried alive other people no rescuing them we had to keep moving.
And I feel the same way inside over that poor womans murder weve lost our humanity our souls as a society.
Im fortunate to have this man as a friend as he is a decent person.

(1,583 posts)Many of us are asking the same question.
How did we become so detached from our-selves?
Seeing countless videos of Republican voters screaming about immigrants, handouts, crime, drugs and not realizing that they are being duped.
At this point, we may need to step forward to demonstrate our collective humanity to save future generations
Its worse than we can speak.

thank you for the story.... all of the important men in my life were veterans. Grandfather, father, husbands.... my grandmother was a housemother for dozens of children left w/o parents from the wars.... https://vfwnationalhome.org/ I did a lot of my growing up there
yesterday talking to my partner, expressing the grief I feel for the victims and our Country, I realized that I just can't image being a veteran at this time and seeing what is happening... may we all find our humanity and souls at this time and act

(31,135 posts)to be in the company of people who understand that every person is human, especially in a world where republicans are incessantly trying to tell us otherwise.
You can comfort him and he can comfort you. This is why some of us have written out loved ones from our lives: they lost their critical thinking skills and any empathy and compassion they once may have possessed. That makes them toxic to us.
dark times. We need each other more than ever. I get your friend. This shit HURTS.
