A suggestion for those considering moving to a blue state (or another country): Move to a swing state instead.

Michigan
Nevada
North Carolina
Pennsylvania
Wisconsin

That said, I understand completely if you can't or don't want to move for any of a number of reasons (finances, family and friends, etc.) because I am staying in this ruby red state (Montana), ride or die. I love Montana and the people here that much.

I too live in a red state (and a blue city fortunately), and am entrenched here. But I think even the reddest of states need some progressives there to keep reminding everyone that there's a better way.

7. We need a leader along the lines of MLK Jr. now! A leader and a movement. In the seventies, members of the

rank-and-file, bottom-up socialist movement in California and other liberal areas actually moved to industrial cities like Detroit and got themselves hired on at auto manufacturing plants in order to organize unions there. They were mainly young and hadn't put down strong roots yet, but still, to uproot yourself and actually relocate for your ideals is extremely admirable.

I gave up on Montana which was purple when I moved there over 20 years ago. I moved to the north east in hopes of helping to get rid of concerned susan over here in Maine. I fought pretty hard for Montana but it pushed me out so I just hope, for all my friends still there, that it changes and soon. I couldn't afford to wait any longer.

12. Think about what's being asked please. It's "remain in Mexico" for

red state refugees. When you are tired, afraid, and under threat; when you have been discriminated against and your rights have been taken away, do you want to move someplace where you can live and breathe with your family as fully equal human beings? Do you want to see your loved ones in an environment where they can feel valued, heal and grow? Or do you want to move from repression and fear to an environment of tension, combat and uncertainty, because somebody on a message board . . ??

I guess if pure political gain is one's priority, then one should move accordingly. It’s my position that we should let those who have enjoyed the comforts of privilege, the advantages of diversity and equality walk the walk. They can choose to move into unstable environments to live there and fill whatever role they see for themselves there, if that is their priority.

Most of the people out here considering uprooting our entire lives are not doing it on some whim to fulfill political daydreams on the internet. We are actual human beings with families and lives and we are uprooting from our homes largely because of trauma. We need to heal. We need to see our loved ones have the chance to grow and thrive.

For the record, I understand about Montana. I’m in the Flathead. If I wasn’t in healthcare, I might not be considering leaving, but I am. I love Montana, and I even love 98% of the assholes that live here too. But my job now is to safeguard the next generations, and it may soon be that the only way to do that, is to leave.
