Re: Protect Our Data

I wrote the State to bitch about sharing the voter data with Washington, Here is the reply:

Thank you for taking the time to contact our office. Your comments will be shared with the Secretary of State.

On September 8, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice requested a copy of Nebraska’s statewide voter registration list to assess Nebraska’s compliance with federal list maintenance requirements. The request seeks the full name, date of birth, residential address, state driver’s license number or the last four digits of the social security number for every registered voter. A lawsuit was filed in late September seeking to prevent the disclosure of the information requested in the September 8 letter.

In December, Secretary Evnen formally informed all relevant parties of his intention to comply with the DOJ request for information on February 12, 2026, unless otherwise ordered by the court. The plaintiffs have now filed a motion to prevent the disclosure of the information until a final ruling is made by the court. A hearing has been scheduled for January 29, 2026.

The Secretary of State’s office will await the court’s ruling concerning the motion for temporary injunction on January 29.
