Well, there goes the neighborhood!

Look what's moving to my town!

https://www.lakemchenryscanner.com/2026/01/08/owner-of-shuttered-trump-and-truth-store-in-huntley-announces-she-will-open-new-store-in-crystal-lake/

The owner of the Trump Truth Store in Huntley, which was closed down in July following an eviction, announced she will be opening a new retail store in Crystal Lake this month.

The Trump Truth Store is expected to “pre-open” on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend on January 17. The business will sell apparel, cups, mugs, posters, flags and other memorabilia related to President Donald Trump. The new store is located in a strip mall at 829 South Virginia Street in Crystal Lake and will be open that Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when it pre-opens.

After Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, the business will be open Thursday and Friday from 12-6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Trump Truth Store is expected to host a grand opening in March and a regular daily operating schedule will begin at that time./excerpt]

The article goes on to say that the eviction mentioned above was due to the store owner continuing to display Trump signs, flags, tables, chairs, a Trump inflatable and a sign on her trailer outside the store, despite despite numerous requests by the landlord and the Village of Huntley and and both the store owner and her landlord being charged with numerous ordinance violations by the Village of Huntley. After repeatedly going to the store and speaking with the store owner, asking her to comply with the village’s ordinances, the landlord finally got fed up and evicted her ignorant ass!

Needless to say, I will be keeping a close eye on this situation.

My family used to rent a cottage on Crystal Lake for a few weeks in the summer, so I have some familiarity with the town.

Sadly, that was not to be. She got evicted from her previous location last summer, because she constantly broke local ordinances by displaying large quantities of merchandise on the sidewalk in front of the store. Both she and her landlord were repeatedly warned to cut it out, but she refused to comply. Landlord finally got fed up with the hassle and evicted her. Of course, she claims the whole thing was political! It's so cute the way she blames her problems on others just like her dear leader.

I hope the store does go bankrupt in its new location. It deserves to meet an ignominious end!

People will be souring on this shit, even the magats.

I used to live in FRG and Algonquin a long time ago in another century.

It'll be interesting to see how long the store lasts. Based on how few Trump signs I saw in the run up to the 2024 election, I doubt he has many fans in this town.

We moved to Crystal Lake 31 years ago, which feels like a lifetime ago. I know FRG and Algonquin well, especially the latter.

Around there for a few years when I got married. Right now, I'm sitting at a table and in a chair I bought at a garage sale next door to Sylvia's bungalow along the river, probably gone by the time you moved to the area(?). We had a little shack along Harrison, in the flood zone. The place in FRG was kind of nice, can't recall the street name, it wasn't paved.

I can imagine it's pretty built up around there now, it was still a rural stop on the rail line back then.

Very suburban, not rural at all. You probably wouldn't recognize much of it now, lol.
