NJ-12: Trenton entrepreneur adds name to Democratic field for Watson Coleman's seat
Could Democratic primary voters in retiring Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing)s district opt for a 33-year-old political outsider instead of one of the many more established politicians in the race? Elijah Dixon is going to find out.
Dixon, an economic development entrepreneur and first-time candidate from Trenton, launched his campaign for New Jerseys 12th congressional district last night, saying that the district is in need of new blood unafraid to promote progressive policies.
Im a father, and like many other parents here within the district, were facing uncertain times, Dixon said in an interview. I look around, and there is a scarcity within the Democratic Party of raw, authentic, accessible leadership, especially those who are championing progressive views.
Dixon is the ninth Democrat to enter the race for the 12th district, a heavily Democratic seat that spans Central Jersey from Plainfield to Trenton. Among his competitors are a state assemblywoman, a county commissioner, three local mayors, and a former official in President Joe Bidens Energy Department.
