well known dog trainer, Wayne Curry, accidently kills employee while filming safety video using live ammo

https://www.wwnytv.com/2025/06/13/man-killed-during-filming-dog-training-facility-promotional-video/?outputType=amp

THURSTON COUNTY, Wa. (KING) – A nationally-known dog trainer in Washington state is facing charges of manslaughter.

Curtice Gordan, 23, was killed June 3 during the filming of a promotional video.

His employer, Wayne Curry, is accused of reckless behavior that caused the young man’s death.

------------------------------

He was the manager at Kraftwork K-9 in South Thurston County and starred in promotional videos. Occasionally he was the villain with the dogs and the owner, Wayne Curry.

His family said he was always willing to participate in the videos but raised concerns about Curry’s plans to use live ammunition in one last week, saying the owner had been careless with firearms before.

According to investigators with a crew recording a video, Curry used a loaded rifle to demonstrate how his dogs supposedly did not react to gunfire, but police say one of the dogs did react and caused Curry to jerk and fire a shot that hit Gordan in the face, killing him.

Meaning, this idiot (me, Army veteran, but that was a LONG time ago) thinks blanks would produce the same effect - same sound and everything - as live ammo. I guess the difference would be the sound of the projectile itself?

If it's really different, then why not load one bullet at a time, for EXACTLY this sort of reaction? ( meaning you fire the one bullet, the dog reacts, there isn't another bullet to be accidentally fired and go somewhere you didn't intend)

I just have to say this Curry guy is a stupid fucking idiot who should never be allowed to touch a gun again. (and that's the best case, assuming when all the evidence is in, people are convinced it truly was an "accident", a result of stupidity and carelessness)

maybe there is something I'm missing here.

My provisional conclusion is the guy is a complete idiot.

It isn't. Absolutely not. This is the kind of thing that blanks are designed for. There's no excuse in the world for using live ammo in this scenario. This clown needs to do time. I believe the phrase is "depraved indifference to human life."

Unbelievable how people who should know better show such an unserious lack of regard for the lethality of firearms.
I was schooled as a kid on gun safety and used to shoot frequently as a younger man. This would never have been acceptable or tolerated.
It is shocking to me how unintelligent we have become as a nation in just the past few decades.
I have to just hang my head in dismay.
