Selling White Privilege Cards on-base:
[This is the language on the back. I had to do a screenshot of a picture someone sent me and transcribe it because I couldn't post the picture.

This card grants its bearer happiness and
success because it's the color of your skin
and not the choices you make that
determine your abilities to be successful.

Undermining Military Neutrality, Cohesion, and Core Values
Yesterday felt like another gut-punch to American ideals. At Fort Bragg, President Trump turned what should have been a nonpartisan address to the troops into a full-blown campaign rally, lacing it with digs at Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom while branding immigration an invasion. Soldiers in uniform cheered the most incendiary lines, a scene that blurred the line between civilian politics and the apolitical military tradition the nation counts on.
Then the news got uglier. Reporters on the base discovered pop-up tables hawking MAGA gearamong the flags and hats, a plastic wallet insert reading White Privilege Card: Trump. The cards success and happiness flow automatically to its bearer by white skin supposedly linked to Trump. Letting that kind of merchandise onto a military installation is more than tone-deaf; its dangerous.
Why does the White Privilege Card have no place on a U.S. base?
1. It violates military neutrality.
DoD rules prohibit partisan, inflammatory sales on the post; the display alone undermines the Armys hard-won image of political impartiality.
2. It insults the ranks.
For service members of coloror anyone whos worn the flag to help dismantle racismthis gag feels like a slap. It glorifies privilege, stokes division, and poisons unit cohesion.

(1,200 posts)So these losers admit its not the content of their character. They admit they aint shit without their whiteness. How pathetic. They havent the sense to be ashamed. This pisses me off, yet it reinforces my belief that racists are pussies at heart.

(27,967 posts)At the Fort Liberty/Bragg event. A friend sent me a picture of the front and back of the card that was for sale.
I then searched for articles with additional information.
This was what I found with a picture of the front only of the same card he sent me the picture of from the base.
So, it's definitely real.

(5,743 posts)But it seems to me to be designed to make fun of the whole idea of white privilege. But, you know, its possible that we are past the time of parody and satire. Children are running the show. And, of course, none of that shit should have been for sale on a US military base.

(6 posts)it is satiric, but seems much more likely they intended it as a fuck you to non whites. I can't imagine the trump folks would be making fun of white privilege, they totally feel deserving of white privilege and support it completely. it seems to me to be a way to make those of color feel second rate and rub their faces in it. just more red meat for trumps most rabid followers.

(20,483 posts)Many get the parody. But it's effect is lost when they think white privilege is perfectly ducky. They wonder why we have such a problem with what they view as a perfectly legitimate way to look at the world. That's why it's so hard to get through to them.

(4,584 posts)But the idea that ANY political merchandise are being sold on a military base is absolutely outrageous!
Trump is salivating over the idea that our military BELONGS to HIM -- like the troops of a warlord, or a Cartel kingpin!

(26 posts)A similar "DoD form" was widely posted on an Army installation where I was working in the early 2000s
Likely by the same sort of people who later were "Tea Partiers" and are now "MAGA"
The "form" begins with the required statements of Authority, Purpose and Use e.g.
PRINCIPAL PURPOSE: To assist whiners in documenting hurt feelings, and to provide leaders with a list of soldiers who require additional counseling, NCO leadership, and extra duty.
< SNIP >
And concludes with the notice that
We, as the Air Force, takes hurt feelings seriously. If you don't have someone who can give you a hug and make things all better, please let us know and we will promptly dispatch a "hugger" to you ASAP. In the event we are unable to find a "hugger" we will notify the Fire Department and request that they send fire personnel to your location. If you are in need of supplemental support, upon written request, we will make every reasonable effort to provide you with a "blankey", a "binky" and/or a bottle if you so desire.
Funny? Possibly Yes. Moreso definitely NO!

(4,580 posts)I am a very pale person, but my skin is not white. I was a public school speech therapist, long ago, in a very small town in Illinois. Some Black children suddenly moved into town, and one of them needed speech therapy. One day, his session ended and he left the room, as some other children entered for a new session. One of them sneered at him behind his back and the others giggled. So I put a piece of white paper on the pale brown table, and I asked, "What color is the table, kids?" "Brown!" "What color is the paper?" "White!" "Everybody, put a hand on the paper." We all put a hand on the paper, and I asked pointedly, "What color are your hands?" They all looked shocked. I said, "See, our hands are the same color as the table. We are NOT white." After a moment of silence, one of the boys quivered, "My Mommy is white." I just raised my eyebrows at him silently. Then I said, "Come on, let's play today's speech game." People who call themselves white are living in a ridiculous delusion.
