PA-11: Marine Corps Vet Sarah Klimm (D) Files For Congressional Seat

Last edited Fri Jun 13, 2025, 04:57 AM - Edit history (1)

York County native Sarah Klimm, who served two decades in the U.S. Marine Corps, has filed a statement of candidacy for the 11th Congressional District seat presently held by Rep. Lloyd Smucker.

Klimm, a transgender woman and advocate for both veterans and LGBTQ+ communities, filed on Tuesday to run in the Democratic primary.

She led aircraft maintenance teams in the Marines, serving at MCAS Miramar and Quantico. After retiring from the Corps, Klimm attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Penn State and served as a volunteer with Minority Veterans of America, reviewing and recommending proposed legislation and policy for Congress and the VA.

Since September, Klimm has served as an independent consultant with the Department of Veterans Affairs on its study, “Equity-Focused Implementation of LGBTQ-Affirmative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: A Hybrid Implementation-Effectiveness Trial.”

That's a pretty red district and opposition to trans acceptance runs very deep in much of PA.
