TACO? You be the judge.

Aaron Rupar: Bessent now says that Trump will likely extend the pause on his tariffs past the July 90 day deadline.

Color me shocked.

In addition, Bessent is testifying before the House Ways and Means Committee. Right before this, he had the following embarrassing exchange:
Bessent: You seem not to have seen the economic data. GDP growth has been quite substantial.
Beyer: GDP growth is half what it was last year, sir.
Bessent: Job growth is solid.
Beyer: Job growth is a third what it was last year, sir.

This is hard to keep up with due to each nation operating under different conditions.

I mean, seriously who knows? His statements and positions are all over the place all the time, and Bessent's are as well.

GDP "growth" was negative in Q1 2025. Q2 is not over yet so data won't be available until the end of July. Beyer messed that up, though. Why did he say it was half what it was last year? It's far, far, far worse than that.

Bessent also credited the Trump administration for slowing inflation, following the Labor Department’s release of May’s Consumer Price Index report Wednesday. The report showed inflation picked up as food costs rose.

or just a stunning willingness to lie knowing that he'll get enough cover from the RW media to convince the base?

nothing about economics (a kind of important subject for a Treasury Secretary to understand). He really is incredibly stupid. Sure he's willing to lie, but he proves his stupidity with every lie because every time he lies, it takes about 5 seconds to debunk everything he says. He's not smart enough to come up with plausible lies.
