ON EDIT: Per the comments below, I've learned that this is NOT "BREAKING," as the Bluesky poster states. Apologies for that. I normally don't post things like this if they don't carry a link. This one had the news story embedded via video, so I took it as legit, but didn't know it happened in April until it was pointed out to me.@gxldsociety.bsky.social
BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schoolstold staff they had parental consent.
They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasnt a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

(46,672 posts)Schools are very serious about who picks children up at school, especially the little ones. And that's a good thing.

(7,344 posts)The entire family was there for an awards ceremony. My dad had to sign her out with his ID.
Dad and I are listed as people that can pick her up. Without dad already on the list, he would not have been able to sign her out.

(5,115 posts)How the hell do they think this is REMOTELY legal?
If i were there, I'm afraid I would be lumped up in a jail cell.
No way I would stand by when this kind of crap is happening.

(795 posts)They receive training. They knew that the DHS is out side of their legal authority.
Thank you teachers.

(6,169 posts)How stupid are those agents? Did they really think complete strangers can just come in and 'see' little kids in school?
And I don't trust ANYBODY taking orders to just gab people while also not identifying themselves. No honor gets no respect.

From Common Dreams, April 10th:
Plainclothes DHS Agents Lied to LA School Officials to Question Elementary Students
The Homeland Security officials falsely told the school principals they had permission from the children's guardians to speak to them.
The superintendent of Los Angeles public schools, Alberto M. Carvalho, confirmed Thursday that plainclothes federal immigration agents lied to school officials this week in order to gain access to two elementary schools to question several childrenwhich the schools refuses to grant.
Carvalho told reporters that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents told the principals of Lillian Street Elementary School and Russell Elementary School that they had permission from the four children's caretakers to question thema claim that "was confirmed to be a falsehood,"CBS News reported.
The Biden administration barred immigration agents from trying to conduct enforcement operations in "sensitive" areas like schools and places of worship, but President Donald Trump reversed that policy after taking office, with former acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman saying, "Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America's schools and churches to avoid arrest."

(18,554 posts)person who thought this was a BREAKING news story that just happened. I was under the impression that the other posters also thought this was a Breaking news story. In looking for more information, I found out that this is a two month old story.
I was just trying to introduce an element of truth here that may have been lacking, and point out that this isn't something that just happened. There's an implication in the original post that it is something that just happened.
Would you like to discuss this further?

(19,577 posts)I didn't know. If I'd caught it, I either wouldn't have posted it or would have added that note. But now anyone who sees the OP will know it's not a "breaking" story. I think that in the context of what is happening right now, it is a legitimate story that needs to be shared, just with a caveat that the Bluesky poster made a mistake with "breaking." Thanks.
