Spurious News: Mexican president declares June 14 International Taco Day
MEXICO CITY (Spurious News Network) -- "Everyone loves tacos!" said Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum. "While tacos were originally invented in what is now Mexico, they have become truly a food of the world. So, what better than to declare the beautiful second Saturday in June International Taco Day?"
The 62-year-old Sheinbaum, wearing a colorful traditional dress and hairstyle, smiled broadly as she stood before a table festooned with what she called tacos of all nations. "Look at this wonderful Korean bulgogi taco. This Southern US pulled pork taco. Chinese char siu tacos. German currywurst tacos. Japanese sashimi tacos. French mushroom tacos. Here's an Italian dessert taco filled with gelato. We're going to have a talk with Sweden about this taco filled with meatballs in cream sauce but they meant well. We even have a taco from Saudi Arabia filled with camel meat - I understand they really prefer lamb and reserve camel for special occasions but this camel taco is fantastic. As I said, everyone loves tacos and every nation has their own special kind. All of them deserve celebration, even the Swedish one."
When we asked President Sheinbaum if the declaration of June 14 as International Taco Day may have had anything to do with that date being American King Donald Trump's birthday and that Trump has been bestowed the nickname "taco," which is short for "Trump always chickens out," she smiled. "Of course it does; in Mexico we have a tradition of making the best of bad situations and Trump is about as bad as it gets."
