(37,060 posts)But these appear to be police, not national guard - AND - considerably older than the late teens/early 20s who made up the national guard at Kent State.
Part of what happened at Kent State was terrified, poorly trained, National Guardsmen - who joined the National Guard to avoid being sent to Vietnam. That dynamic is not present now.

(8,572 posts)if this outrage continues to escalate the results will be the same..

(37,060 posts)Today's National Guard is not the same as the National Guard in Kent State.
Then, you joined - in large part - because you didn't want to engage in violence (or be the target of violence), and the National Guard was one way to avoid deployment to Vietnam. That also shifted the age of the National Guard younger (more inexperienced, less mature judgment).
Those dynamics work against each other, to some extent - you are more likely join the National Guard today because you are patriotic and inclined to military service. But the average age of the National Guard today is in the 30s - so better judgment (at least theoretically) and more life experience than the National Guard of the Vietnam era.

(8,572 posts)regardless of the maturity of the National Guard, Trump is pretty damn close to allowing the National Guard to shoot protestors...and they won't shoot because they're young and scared like Kent State...they'll shoot because their sadistic psychotic "boss" commands them to do so...

(12,522 posts)just how far the MAGAots have infiltrated the National Guard, The Reserves, and the entire U.S. Military. We have already seen it to a certain degree in the Secret Service, DOJ, FBI, ICE, State and Local Police..... etc......And most definitely the Border Patrol.......

(12,522 posts)If you weren't doing that, I wouldn't have to do this to you...... kind of shit
It is much harder to raise the bad cops up to be good, it is far easier for the good cops to sink to being bad cops.....
