(7,860 posts)I saw one of his interviews, and he is obsessed with Gavin Newsom. He didn't say anything much about rioters. He's focused on getting Newsom.
1. Nobody attends the "birthday" parade. Nobody.
2. No Kings Day happens everywhere.
3. We are going to have to initiate General Strike days, where nobody works or does anything. Except, emergency services.
Nothing he does here will be something he can be held accountable for, thanks to the Roberts Court. I still think we should go after his golf course. Don't know how, but we should eliminate it for him.
I feel really blue today, in more ways than one.

(3,041 posts)In any case you can't have it be unclear.
The courts must decide, and it will determine whether Trump can take over all the National Guards or whether these are forces that belong to the states. Trump doesn't want the Governors to have any force available to them if he starts doing even crazier stuff.

(3,041 posts)Obviously SCOTUS is a wild card. But if 95% of the courts in the country rule against Trump and are overturned by 6 people, at least it will be on the record that SCOTUS is installing a dictatorship.
Roberts and Barrett might have a problem with that. That is our hope.
We have to establish the illegality of what he is doing. We won't win in a gunfight.
If Trump ignores the courts and uses the military, it will at least be understood by all that it is a coup.
Which will be important when the country falls apart and the sycophants and military won't prop him up anymore.

(18,422 posts)trDUMP wants to wrestle Newsom to the ground and shave his head on live TV.
If djt can out maneuver Newsom then djt can conquer the remaining states in a show of force.
If trDUMP wins this - trDUMP's brand of Fascism will become the political ideology of the day. The Heritage Foundation will pull the plug on American Democracy and Project 2025 will flip into high gear taking over every facet of our government as we transition into a Christo-Fascist Theocracy.

(10,661 posts)Read the entire text of Newsoms letter below:
Dear Secretary Hegseth:
On June 7, 2025, President Trump issued a memorandum to your office entitled Department of Defense Security for the Protection of Department of Homeland Security Functions. The memorandum purports to invoke 10 U.S.C. § 12406 to call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard . . . to temporarily protect ICE and other United States Government personnel who are performing Federal functions, including the enforcement of Federal law, and to protect Federal property. The memorandum further directs actions as necessary for the Secretary of Defense to coordinate with the Governors of the States and the National Guard Bureau in identifying and ordering into Federal service the appropriate members and units of the National Guard under this authority.
Section 12406 states that the President may call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary to (1) repel an invasion of the United States by a foreign nation; (2) suppress a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States; or (3) execute the laws of the United States when the President is unable to do so with regular forces. Section 12406 further states that [o]rders for these purposes shall be issued through the governors of the States.
.......
Last night, the Adjutant General of California received a memorandum from your office with the subject line Calling Members of the California National Guard into Federal Service, which states that [t]wo thousand members of the California National Guard will be called into Federal service effective immediately for a period of 60 days. Notably, this directive did not issue through the governor[] of the State[] as required by section 12406; the Department of Defense did not transmit this directive to the Office of the Governor, nor was it approved or ordered by the Governor of California. This directive is also inconsistent with the Presidents memorandum, which anticipates coordinat[ion] with the Governors of the States in identifying and ordering units of the National Guard into federal service.

(7,933 posts)He should have told Trump he couldn't accept the orders if they did not come from/through the Governor of California. Newsome should dismiss the Adjt. General.
chowder66
(10,661 posts)That doesn't mean it was right or legal however. Unfortunately that has to be dealt with after the fact.
The letter starts that process so I don't think the General will be dismissed.... due to the chain of command. This is one of those gray areas that Trump is so good at exploiting.
We will have to see what happens.

(3,041 posts)There has to be a problem before they can litigate it. We don't know if there are lawyers who have been working on this, just as the AGs of many states were preparing cases against Trump even before he took office.
