Even if SCOTUS backs them off this arrest the judges shit, this country has crossed the Rubicon. How the hell do we recover from this?
Edit: I'm so sorry! I hate when people do this without context and here I go and do it myself! I didn't want to create a dupe but forgot to add the context:
"FBI arrests Wisconsin judge and accuses her of obstructing immigration officials"
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/25/judge-hannah-dugan-milwaukee-arrest

(36,727 posts)I was in class all morning, so I haven't seen or heard any news. And this thread was the first thing I opened on DU when I got home - and my reaction was the same as the poster to whom you responded. Huh? What is this random terror about?
The post should contain enough context so that if it is the first thing we land on, we don't have to go searching and guessing about what it refers to.
How hard is it to add "because of the ICE arrest of a judge in Wisconsin"?
ruet
(10,119 posts)This is a singularly sensational story though. It's literally everywhere. Also, who doesn't have LBN set as one of their home tabs?
I kidd... I kidd...
Ms. Toad
(36,727 posts)After reading this thread (and being thoroughly confused), I did check LBN.
I deliberately don't listen to my radio when I'm driving to and from class. We don't have television at home. So had heard absolutely nothing about it prior to landing on this thread. And - even after landing on this thread, I still had heard nothing about what had happened . . .

I like some sports and follow that but mainly I don't want to know too much....its information overload that makes me feel like I am going to have a major fatal system failure
I don't trust what is going on and have lost value in my retirement over these useless political upheavals.
I so miss the times when I could sleep at night. And I miss having a democratic caring president.

(36,727 posts)Aside from a brief period right after the elections and another right after inauguration.
But if something happens between when I leave for classes in the morning and when I come home early- to mid-afternoon, I don't know about it until I log back into DU. And, all too frequently, I run into something posted completely without context.

(10,499 posts)This has nothing to do with anything, but the Asiancy is the name of a popular long-running gay porn series online.
Person maybe shouldve googled that one before picking the moniker.
I know it has nothing to do with the topic of this thread, but I howled when I saw it.

(3,197 posts)Embrace what you love and hold that closely.
Nourish those that you love starting with your self.
These are still mere skirmishes.
There is unfortunately much more to come.
The reasoned among us will not desist.
The reasoned among us will continue to resist.
The primary way one can resist is to resist becoming compliant because one is terrorized.
Nourishing yourself and others with what you each hold dear is the way to survive this catastrophic wholesale onslaught of abjectly unbridled fascist depravity.
Do not concede.
Love.
Love yourself.
Love the one's you're with.
That is what we're fighting for after all... Love and Peace.
Here's to the restoration of our freedoms through the return to reason's rule!

These guys are already so deep into batshit crazy criminality that laws, and especially that pesky Constitution, don't mean squat to them anymore, if it ever did.
Trump will keep doubling down and pushing the envelope, 'cause that's the way he's hardwired. It's a strategy that has always worked for him before. But his dim, litigious lizard-brain is slowly discovering that his adversaries ain't gonna back down this time. so he's gonna go supernova, and then the proverbial substance is gonna hit the fan with a splat heard round the world.

(55,035 posts)They should have been railed on as the overt propaganda network they are. Instead the msm gently described them as a conservative news source and allowed them to play a heavy hand in shaping our national political discourse by using their topics and frames and terminology and antisocial, "debate" techniques.
It's actually a marvel it took so long to get to this point, the right wing had an organized plan for this going at least as far back as Reagan/gingrich, hike the left largely went from election to election without ever stepping back and addressing the long term.
I think we can largely thank shrub's utter incompetence for that. He advanced their cause for sure, by not as much as expected, and he paved the way for Obama to delay things further for another 8 years.
Now Donnie and his wrecking crew are playing the part of the dinosaurs in Jurassic park, breaking things and testing the wires to see if they can completely take over the island.
They're getting a lot of institutional pushback, we have to hope it's enough. Sadly, they are relentless and a victory in the short term will be tested again later.
The only real solution is mass protests, strikes, serious boycotts, etc.
The people are stirring. But we shall see if they can rise to the moment in large enough numbers.

But totally agree. This post was first thing I clicked on today and had to go down several replies to find out what the OP was so terrified of.
Posts without some context usually just make me move on if there isnt something in first few replies that helps, so thanks to all those who helped by supplying the info.
On edit, typing so slow my reply to barbtries post #22 got moved down. Hate when that happens! Trying to fix on edit to make more sense. My personal wishlist includes replies having a little note like reply to barbtries #22 because my brain gets lost sometimes trying to match up replies, that arent directly underneath. lol .
And now I see LearnedHand fixed the OP in the time it took me to type! Thank You, LearnedHand!!

(5,407 posts)I finally got one of those frig's with the bottom freezer. Freezer was great! Could see what I had in it, and had no problem getting to anything. But the rest of the frig? That's where they lost me. I'm 4'9" and couldn't even SEE the top shelf, let alone reach anything without dragging over a chair to stand on. We let it go when we sold the house and went back to the original combo. I still drool over the bottom freezer thing... but damned, not everything I have goes to the freezer! (LOL)

(1,683 posts)to arrest that specific immigrant, than the Wisconsin judge was under no obligation to have the immigrant leave her courtroom through the door which ICE preferred to give them easier access to him.
Any charges against her should be thrown out of court before trial, though the point is to intimidate people, not to follow the law. I hope she is able to countersue and bring charges for wrongful arrest.
